A great month for Villa's
chamber music, from the often-programmed Jet Whistle in Brooklyn to the
rarer 3rd Piano Trio in Miami Beach, BB#6 in Akron, the Sonata-Fantasy
no. 2 for violin and piano in Prague, and the Quintet in the form of a
Choros in Connecticut. The greatest of the chamber works, though,
is the String Trio. It's great to see it showing up in programs;
concert-goers in Ashland Oregon will have a chance to hear a masterwork.
On the orchestral front we have
lots to hear as well, as the fall season heats up in the Northern Hemisphere.
A very rare work is the big Choros no. 9, which you can hear in Rio de
Janeiro.
