Roberto Duarte conducts the Czech-Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra of Bratislava
This CD, now unfortunately deleted (it's back!), is a landmark disc for Villa-Lobos lovers. In the three late pieces Erosao, Dawn in the Tropical Forest, and Genesis, the composer looks back to his early orchestral successes Uirapuru and Amazonas. Duarte brings his eastern European orchestra to an idiomatic performance that sounds like it's coming from Sao Paulo or Rio.
The Naxos.com website includes the superb liner notes by Roberto Duarte.
This recording takes into account the significant scholarly work that Duarte has undertaken with these scores. All three works are included in his 1994 book Revisão das obras orquestrais de Villa-Lobos v.2.
